Steven Wilson – Transience

Hello, fellow Blogreaders!
In last December, after I found out that on his new tour Steven Wilson will be playing Transcience (the only song from the H.C.E. album that wasn’t being played in 2015), partly because I wanted to prepare something that would be entirely mine, and partly because I just felt that I had to (this is one of my favourite tracks from the album), I decided to create a video with Karolina ‚Carrie’ Grzybowska that would complement the concerts visualizations. I am the one responsible for the idea, shooting, directing and editing, and the main character was played by sterling Karolina. For the reasons that were not dependent on us, the material will not be among the official visualizations on 2016 tour, however, Steven didn’t mind us publishing it as an unofficial music video. Feel free to watch our material, and to read more about the H.C.E. visualizations here and here. I can now officially tell you that Carrie and I are working on two more video projects – but for now I’ll let the fact whom they are for remain a mistery.

Versus #5 FairyLady Paulina Maciejewska

Hello fellow Blogreaders!
One of my resolutions for this year is reviving the Versus project – and the effect is second session this year (the previous one was with Youssef Nassar) for which I meet another photographer, and we try to take a series of photos of one another in the same place and at the same time. This time I was shooting Paulina Maciejewska (make sure to check out her work!), young, nice and talented, and it turned out that these are not the only reasons to hate her :). She is a photographic sure-fire hit as well, and doesn’t need to be instructed much to achieve great effects – what sadly can’t be said about me… so I have no other option than to hate her, and I’m good at it 🙂

Versus #4 Youssef Nassar

Hello fellow Blogreaders!

After more than a year I’m back with another session from the Versus project. This time my photo companion was Lebanese photograph and director Youssef Nassar, with whom I worked on the music video for Steven Wilson. Our session was very spontaneous, we made it in a tiny hostel room after all working day. The background was a window curtain, and the lighting – tiny softbox 60×60 with studio lamp triggered by radio. Fun fact: the cigarette wasn’t lit on any of the photos, and all the smoke and other effects were added in postproduction.

Hand. Cannot. Erase. part.II Visuals

Hello fellow Blogreaders!
Today a post that many of you have been waiting for. There was a little preview of it in my previous post, but only now, after the show in Łódź, I can officially show you what I’ve been working on for the last six months. All Steven Wilson’s fans know that his concerts are masterpieces, but on his current tour there is not only fantastic music, but also a great visual show. There is a 11x4m led screen behind the stage, helping the fans get into the story Wilson tells – it’s incredible! The tour began some time ago, and you can already find many concerts reviews, where the visualisations are warmly described. They are always just mentioned though, I’ll try to describe them with more details. My description will be based on the yesterday’s show in Łódź, hope you enjoy it.

The show begins with a few minutes long intro that changes seamlessly into ‚First Regret’ and ‚3 Years Older’. Directing and editing: Lasse Hoile, cinematography: Krzysztof Czechowski. Cast: Karolina Grzybowska, and in a couple of scenes me – in my role of a lifetime… I played an unloved boyfriend 🙂 All the pictures were taken in Poznań. Residential districts consisting of large blocks of flats were proudly represented by os. Orła Białego and os. Oświecenia. The tram scenes were taken in Pestka line, the dark station is the last stop on os. Sobieskiego. Other shots were taken near the Old Market Square, Plac Wolności, Marcinkowski Park and the Main Station.

Butterfly Effect

Hello fellow Blogreaders!
Today I’m going to show you a project that I started in August 2014, and finished just now, in March 2015. A part of the photos was taken during my previous meeting with Magda Zawada. Then I got the idea of putting these few experimental frames together into a short story, and this is how ‚the butterfly effect’ was born. We were missing three frames to complete the story, and we took them a few days ago in a completely different location. The most interesting aspect of the whole undertaking is its minimalism. The model was covered with a cheap plastic film, and then I reached the cocoon effect by a creative use of the liquify filter, which has been in Photoshop since forever. The lighting was one small system flash with radio trigger on a light stand, placed between the model and the background. You can see the whole postproduction process on the video.
Hope you enjoy it.

Silence, darkness. Delicate air movement, and rough sound wave breaking the biting cold of the cave…
